F1 News – Badoer’s gone but Rob’s staying

September 3, 2009

Ferrari finally put poor Luca Badoer out of his misery earlier today, with the news that Giancarlo Fisichella would join the team as second driver until the end of the season, when he will become the official reserve driver. Fortunately for us, Rob Smedley will be his race engineer, reuniting the team who won the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix for the Jordan team.

This can only be good news for Ferrari, who desperately need a driver who can help Kimi pick up contructors points, and it’s a dream end to his career for Giancarlo – driving a Ferrari at Monza. Good luck to him.

There was good news for injured driver Felipe Massa earlier this week too, when he visited doctors in Miami. he has to have reconstructive surgery on his skull, inserting a steel plate, and this will be done in the next few days. He’ll need a few days to recover, and can then start his physical training again, as he has not been allowed to do any since the accident.

He appeared at a national motorsports event in Brazil yesterday, and it was wonderful to see him out and about. Hopefully he will be back on the grid at the start of next season.
